BOOK SIGNING WITH DR SETH ALEXANDER
Where History, Culture, and Community Converge at The Sloane Club.
On the evening of 25th July 2025, The Modernists gathered at the distinguished Sloane Club in Chelsea for a truly special community event: a conversation and book signing with award-winning historian and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Dr Seth Alexander Thévoz.
Set within the club’s elegant surroundings, the evening invited guests to step into the fascinating world of London’s private members’ clubs—brought to life through Dr Thévoz’s acclaimed work, London Clubland: A Companion for the Curious.
Highlights of the Evening
The evening opened with welcome drinks in the Sloane Club’s refined lounges, where members and guests mingled in an atmosphere of anticipation and connection.
Soon after, The Modernists’ founder, Melissa Dewar, hosted a captivating Q&A with Dr Thévoz. Together, they explored the rich traditions and evolving culture of private clubs—spaces that have shaped, and continue to shape, the city’s cultural and social fabric. Dr Thévoz’s insights offered guests both historical depth and a fresh perspective on how these storied institutions remain relevant today.
The discussion was followed by a relaxed networking reception. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés curated by The Sloane Club, while conversations flowed easily, reflecting the Modernists ethos of community, curiosity, and connection.
